Prof Dr Unmona Borgohain Saikia was appointed Prof Cum Principal of CON, AIIMS Guwahati on March 1, 2024. Dr. Unmona Borgohain Saikia formerly served as Principal of the Asian Institute of Nursing Education in Guwahati, the first Private Nursing College (AINE) in North East India, for 20 years. She also established AINE. She has taken up the dual role of Nursing Director at GNRC Hospital Ltd. in Guwahati. Prof. Unmona completed her B.Sc. Nursing from Regional College of Nursing, Guwahati.
She has completed her post-graduation in 1999 from a renowned institute i.e., LTCN, SNDT Women’s’ University Mumbai. She pursued her Ph.D Degree from Gauhati University in 2010. To widen her knowledge and scope in the profession, she has completed a PG Course in M.Sc. Psychotherapy and Counselling from IPMS Mumbai, PGDHHM under IGNOU and CPQIH from CAHO.
Her journey in the nursing profession started as a bedside nurse to the Intrapreneur. In these 30 years of professional experience, she has held various positions and responsibilities in various capacities, starting as a tutor, administrator in College and Chief of Quality Control department of Super specialty Hospital, NABH Assessor, Former Dean faculty of Nursing in Health University, Govt of Assam, Ph.D. Guide at SSUHS , Founder Principal of First Private Nursing College (AINE) in North East India , Senate member of SNDT Women’s University , National Vice President of Association of Nurse Executives of India (ANEI). Through her very Unique Model of teaching, students graduate with flying colours and all-round personality development. She is equally proficient on both the Academic and Service sides. Due to her charismatic leadership, the Nursing profession in North East region became more Visible.

October 2022: Awarded for Outstanding Service and Dedication in the Project Conducted by NAINA (New Jersey, USA) in India, During COVD 19.
Sep 2022: Awarded the Asian Admirable Achievers Award by Rifacimento International
March 2022: Received Anuprerona Excellency Award for decade-long dedicated service, outstanding contribution in the field of Education and women Empowerment in Society.
Oct 2021: Recognized as the Top Women in Education for “Fostering a New Horizon to Nursing Education” by Women Entrepreneur Magazine
August 2021: Awarded as one of the most influential women Leaders 2021 By the Excelligent Magazine.

She has visited Singapore general Hospitals twice in her career to learn Nursing leadership and Nursing Service to understand Global Standard
In her professional life, she has presented papers at large numbers of conferences at local and national levels. She also published different articles in scientific and general magazines.
Prof. Unmona was simultaneously holding and efficiently managing the position of Nursing Service Head and Academic head. Her scope of Service is not only limited to Nursing; she also contributed to society. She conducts value-added courses and motivational sessions to General Educational Institutes and Universities and is actively involved in different NGOs, CSR activities and Professional organizations.
At CON, AIIMS Guwahati, Prof. Unmona conceives the plan to develop world-class infrastructure and to prepare versatile nursing professionals to lead the Heath care Institute globally. By integrating digital pedagogy and developing a holistic evidenced-based curriculum in consideration of societal needs and students’ trends. CON AIIMS will be committed to carry out research projects with purpose of gaining new knowledge and improving the Quality of nursing Care. The Institute also will remain obligated to ensure Quality nursing service in the hospital while students are placed for clinical learning.
