Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery

Introduction:

The Department of Plastic, Reconstructive & Burns Surgery is an integral and vital part of any tertiary and teaching hospital. Keeping in mind the motto of AIIMS to provide the best possible in-patient care, medical education, and research, the department was established with two faculty; one Associate Professor and one Assistant Professor.

Vision & mission:

There is a common misconception among the general populace that equates Plastic & Reconstructive surgery to cosmetic surgery and burns. Cosmetic surgery and burn are only small parts of the huge spectra of work that encompasses this magnificent branch of surgery. All sorts of reconstructive procedures that are limb-saving, life-changing, and at times, even life-saving, are undertaken under the auspices of Plastic Surgery. Patients requiring complex reconstructions often go outside this North East region for treatment due to various issues. The vision of the department is to establish a state-of-the-art reconstructive facility that will cater to even the most complex reconstructive needs of the patients.

Services provided:

At present the department is in the early stage of development. We are providing outpatient consultation services from our designated OPD space on the Second floor, A block, OPD complex. Dressing and wound management facilities are available in a limited manner which is in the process of getting upgraded.
