The Department of Pharmacology commenced its services since the inception of the Institute. The vision of the Department is to develop into a center of excellence in pharmacology that integrates the three-pronged approach of AIIMS institutions—Education, Patient Care, and Research. The Department strives to advance safe, rational, and evidence-based use of medicines, while fostering innovation in pharmacological sciences and clinical practice.
The Department plans to achieve this in the following manner:
1. Education
The Department of Pharmacology is dedicated to imparting comprehensive education in basic, clinical, and experimental pharmacology. The goal is to nurture students with sound knowledge of drug actions, therapeutic applications, and adverse drug reactions, while instilling critical thinking, ethical values, and research aptitude.
2. Patient Care
The Department actively contributes to patient care through Clinical Pharmacology Services, with the aim of promoting rational drug use and ensuring patient safety.
3. Research
The Department is committed to high-quality research in both basic and clinical pharmacology. Focus areas include drug discovery, molecular pharmacology, pharmacogenomics, neuropharmacology, cardiovascular pharmacology, oncology, toxicology, and pharmacovigilance.

The Department of Pharmacology is committed to nurturing student development through advancements in pharmacological sciences, emphasizing rational therapeutics, drug discovery, and clinical pharmacology. It strives to instil scientific curiosity, analytical thinking, ethical values, and practical skills among learners. MBBS teaching in Pharmacology has already begun and also, MD pharmacology course. Specialized training modules are offered for allied disciplines, with future plans to broaden academic programs through interdisciplinary collaborations and the introduction of additional postgraduate courses to meet the evolving needs of healthcare and biomedical research. The Department regularly conducts workshops, CMEs, and hands-on sessions in areas such as pharmacovigilance, rational drug use, and clinical research to update students and professionals on the latest advancements. In addition, the Department provides training in Pharmacology to the B.Sc. (Nursing) students of the Institute.
