The Department of Medical Education, AIIMS Guwahati is functional since December 2020.
The Department aims to be a Medical Education Centre of Excellence for the entire North Eastern Region and provide an educational platform for National and International networking and collaboration. It also plans to develop specialized State of the Art educational labs like Skills Lab, Simulation Centre, Communication Labs etc., thereby facilitating educational research through projects and research publications.
The main objectives of the Department are to train all the faculty in Medical Education and to be responsible for all educational processes at AIIMS Guwahati. The Department aims to ensure continuous quality improvement in medical education, implement and evaluate curricular development and faculty development at the Institute. It will ensure curriculum development and ensure faculty development by conducting faculty development programs and workshops.
The Department has been taking regular classes on Attitude, Ethics and Communication for all the batches. The sessions are mainly interactive by use of various small group teaching methods like role play, group discussion, panel discussion, cinema-education, reflection, SDL etc. to make the teaching learning process livelier and more interactive. The students were also introduced to the local language and were taught communication skills, and humanities in Medical Education and Bioethics. The Department had also started an in-house faculty development programme including hands-on workshop. The mentor mentee program is also being looked into by the department whereby the students are allotted faculty mentors to counsel them on various issues and monitor their progress.
The Department of Medical Education at AIIMS Guwahati was formally inaugurated on the 19th April,2023 in the 1st floor, Medical College Building.
