Prof. Dr. Unmona Borgohain Saikia assumed charge as Professor-cum-Principal, College of Nursing, AIIMS Guwahati on March 1, 2024. Along with leading the College of Nursing, she is also heading the Nursing Services of the Institute.
She completed her M.Sc. Nursing in 1999 from the prestigious LTCN, SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai, followed by a Ph.D. from Gauhati University in 2010. To broaden her professional expertise, she has pursued additional qualifications including M.Sc. Psychotherapy & Counselling (IPMS Mumbai), PGDHHM (IGNOU), and CPQIH (CAHO).
Her professional journey spans over 30 years, beginning as a bedside nurse and evolving into a visionary academic leader and intrapreneur. She established and served as the Principal of the Asian Institute of Nursing Education (AINE), Guwahati the first private nursing college in Northeast India—for 20 years. She also held the position of Dean, Faculty of Nursing, at Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS), Assam.
Over the years, she has taken on diverse roles including Tutor, Administrator, Chief of Quality Control in a multispecialty NABH-accredited hospital, NABH Assessor, Ph.D. Guide at SSUHS, Senate Member of SNDT Women’s University, and National Vice President of the Association of Nurse Executives of India (ANEI). Her distinctive teaching approach has shaped countless students into confident, competent professionals. Her leadership has significantly enhanced the visibility of the nursing profession in the Northeast region.

Prof. Unmona has presented numerous papers at national and regional conferences and has authored several articles in scientific and general publications. Her contributions extend beyond nursing—she regularly conducts value-added courses, motivational sessions in academic institutions, and participates actively in NGOs, CSR initiatives, and professional bodies.
